In 2001 we were asked to prepare an audio description
for a ground breaking video presentation called Talk to
launch the Disability Rights
Commission.
For many of the assembled guests at Lancaster House, notably
Tony Blair and the leaders of the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies,
this was their first experience of a fully accessible
presentation.
Unlike signing and subtitling which can be visible to
the onlooker, audio description is by its very nature
unseen. On this occasion our audio description team leader
gave a live description of the film, which was subsequently
recorded and made available to blind organisations across
