Audio Description
is verbal commentary that fills in the gaps in a programme,
film or video where there is no dialogue, describing action
sequences, facial expression, body language, costume and
scenery. It gives blind and partially sighted people an
additional and essential service, providing information
that would otherwise be purely visual.
Our Head of Audio Description, Veronika Hyks, is acknowledged
as the UK’s leading practitioner in this field;
she has written and narrated audio description for feature
films on video and DVD including Calendar Girls, Chicago
and Finding Nemo.
Under her direction, we have audio described hundreds
of hours of film, DVD and broadcast programming, using
an impressive roster of highly professional voice artists.
